Many reasons to love Taylor Swift.
1.) I discovered her over 11 years ago. It was when my Depression really kicked in and her music was very helpful in keeping me around.
2.) She’s very generous. She’s been ‘most charitable celebrity’ a few times already, and the thing is, we don’t see the proof because she doesn’t brag about it. She’ll donate to something and no one will know unless the recipients spread the word.
She donates to flood relief. She sends items to various charities for underprivileged youths and LGBT folks. Helped a homeless fan get a house. Helped a pregnant fan who might miscarry, get a better qualified doctor with expenses handled ahead of time.
3.) Back in 2012 she wrote a song about a little boy named Ronan. She’d been following his mother’s blog which was dedicated to her experience with his Neuroblastoma(Cancer). He died just short of his 4th birthday and Taylor took his mother Maya’s words in her blog, and wrote the song [Ronan] which she preformed on Stand Up To Cancer to get attention on it. The proceeds go to cancer charities.
Taylor has also remained in touch with Maya Thompson and her family and invites them to every tour she’s had in Arizona since then. She knows their children, and Maya will defend her, ‘to the moon and back’.
4.) Once Taylor was asked if a fan had ever made her cry and she said that it would never become easy dealing with little kids with Cancer. She visits children with terminal illnesses a lot and even did so very recently. Once again, she didn’t publicize this, it was up to the families to tell people if they wanted.
5.) On two separate occasions, with many years between both, Taylor was asked in interviews what super power she wanted and both times, without hesitation, she said ‘Healing People’.
I’ve chosen to interpret this as her meeting so many terminally ill fans and being frustrated with not being able to heal them. Her mother was also diagnosed with cancer a while back and it has become an even more serious topic closer to her heart. It is in remission now but it will forever hang over their heads like a dark cloud.
6.) Someone sent Taylor a letter on behalf of a friend who as hospitalized during Christmas. They went through extreme lengths to write everything about her illness out by hand and add pictures and details to explain as best as possible who such big fans the mom and daughter were. And they simply asked that Taylor possibly give the woman’s daughter a shout out for Christmas since her mom was going to be in the hospital the whole time, making the holiday less fun.
Taylor sent her an entire box full of merch and made her day.
7.) Taylor gives free Meet & Greets. A lot of celebrities will charge an arm and a leg, but Taylor has been giving free M&Gs her whole career. She once did a 13 hour M&G.
8.) According to Taylor’s father Scott, she keeps everything fans give her. And it is because she saw Shania Twain once and made her a book and Shanai not only read through it but thanked little Taylor from the stage and that forever stuck with her. So she hoards gifts from fans because she knows the feeling of someone you admire appreciating something you made for them.
9.) She invites fans to her houses in order to play them her albums ahead of their release. She literally stalks their social media accounts and invites them in secret and feeds them. She did this for 1989 and reputation.
10.) She interacts right here on Tumblr with fans. She got Tumblr to extend the amount of people she could follow just so she could follow more fans. She pays so much attention she’s aware of fandom memes.
One meme started because of a post someone made using her picture from her early teens. They claimed it was their friend Becky who they lost to drugs. Someone said it was Taylor and this spawned their memed reply which was ’no its becky’. It became a big joke in the fandom.
Not too long later, Taylor was spotted in a yellow shirt with the words ‘no its becky’ in black font across the front.
And to go a step further, her mom Andrea has been doing ‘no its debbie’ recently.
Another meme was a few weeks back someone recorded Taylor singing her song [Delicate] at her concert and just as she was about to sing the first verse, the person screamed, ‘1, 2, 3… let’s go, bitch!’. The video spread on Twitter, got shared to Tumblr, and Taylor Liked it. Then more people started doing it and Taylor Liked those videos as well.
Finally, in the most recent shows, Taylor has started counting with her fingers and saying, ‘LET’S GO’ before starting the verse. It’s great!
11.) She wrote an LGBTQ+ friendly lyric in her song [Welcome to New York] where she says, ‘And you can want who you want. Boys and boys & girls and girls’. The homophobes got offended and demanded it be changed and she refused. On The View, she said she didn’t get why people cared since ‘it shouldn’t matter who you love’.
12.) Todrick Hall(a YouTuber) did a 1989 version of his 4 Todrick series and Taylor not only loved it, but met him in person, and they ended up becoming best friends. He is even in the LWYMMD video.
13.) Taylor has Liked posts from LGBT fans who have claimed specific songs of hers for the LGBTQ community, showing support of them.
14.) She was vocal about supporting Hayley Kiyoko’s desire to write about how she loves women.
15.) Taylor is very anti-slut shaming. She had to grow up a bit from when she was young and wrote a song with a concerning lyric in it where she shames a woman for sleeping around and stealing her boyfriend when she was 18. And she has admitted to not only it being impossible for someone to be stolen if they didn’t want to go, but she has heavily criticized others for slut shaming. Furthermore, she has never performed that song since and doesn’t pay it any attention.
This lesson had to be learned partly from her being slut shamed in the media for dating or even looking at someone.
16.) When she actually does something wrong she apologizes. There was an issue with Nicki Minaj a couple years ago where Nicki said something on Twitter and Taylor thought she was being attacked and said something publicly. She then called Nicki personally to get more informed, learned what she meant, and publicly apologized for jumping to conclusions. She admitted her mistake.
17.) The media claims Taylor has all this ‘beef’ with everyone. But she never talks about it. I have seen her supposedly have ‘beef’ with so many people when she’s barely ever met most of them. And the three we all know of have talked about her constantly over the past several years but Taylor remains silent outside music. In interviews she wouldn’t attack anyone and would direct questions elsewhere or just not name people. Hell, after Kanye embarrassed her at the VMAs years ago, the paparazzi tried to get her to bad mouth him back stage and she wouldn’t. And she was younger and had less self-control back then.
18.) What Taylor said about Pride Month at her recent show:
June is Pride month, and I think a lot about how it is very brave to be vulnerable about your feelings in that sense and in that situation, but it is even more brave to be honest about your feelings about who you love when you know that might be met with adversity from society. And so this month, and every month, I want to send my love and respect to everybody who has been brave enough to be honest about how you feel, to live their lives as they are, as they feel they should be, as they identify, and this is a month where we need to celebrate how far we’ve come, but also we need to acknowledge how far we have left to go.
19.) Been vocal about Gun Control and specified that no one should fear going to school, the movies, or ‘their place of worship’.
20.) Counter-sued the man who sexually assaulted her for $1 to prove a point. He waited months to pay her that dollar btw. She set the record for how many times the word ‘ass’ was used in the Colorado Federal Court. She said, ‘My ass is located at the back of my body’ when asked how she knew he was groping her ass. He claimed he was touching her ribcage but his hand was by the hem of her mini skirt.
21.) The only interview she gave in 2017 was for the #MeToo movement about her experience. She said, ‘My advice is that you not blame yourself and do not accept the blame others will try to place on you. You should not be blamed for waiting 15 minutes or 15 days or 15 years to report sexual assault or harassment, or for the outcome of what happens to a person after he or she makes the choice to sexually harass or assault you.’
22.) Taylor once called Gene Simmons for her guitarist Paul. He’s a big fan and she got him to wish Paul a happy birthday.
23.) She unabashedly loves cats.
24.) “Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind.” - Taylor Swift.
“My parents taught me never to judge anyone based on whom they love, what color their skin is, or their religion.” - Taylor Swift.
“Just go for it, or don’t, but don’t wait.” - Taylor Swift.
That last one actually comes from a rant on eating food off the floor but it still is inspirational. “If what you have dropped is sticky, do not eat is off the ground. Otherwise you make the call. It’s intuition, you have to react quickly. Just go for it, or don’t, but don’t wait.”
25.) Taylor tips people at the drive thru. When Fearless came out she was so excited over being wealthy enough to do that finally. She said it made her happy because no one expects that to happen.
I have so many more reasons but this has taken half an hour already.
